The University of Warwick had never been a name I had heard of, until my elder brother accepted an offer to study Accounting and Finance at Warwick. I was intrigued by the university that he had chosen so I decided to find out more about it by doing my own research as well as asking for opinions from my close friends and family. Having a family member at Warwick gave me the opportunity to have a good idea of how university life there would be like, and I really liked how Warwick sounded – stellar academics, a wide range of facilities, a conducive environment for studying, diverse community and manageable living costs compared to a bigger city, what’s not to like?
A couple of years later, I found myself walking onto the grounds of Warwick’s main campus, excited to finally experience the university for myself. The first impressions I had of Warwick was “Wow, it’s huge!”. The campus boasts many state-of-the-art facilities that I was genuinely impressed to see. I was fascinated by the many different halls of residences available to students, the lush greenery, the modern classrooms, and the ever-well-equipped Sports Hub. All these play a significant role in creating a conducive environment for Warwick students to excel, not just in academia but also in co-curricular activities.
Having heard many good things about the high quality of education offered at Warwick, I was not disappointed when my first term started. The hybrid learning style combining online lectures and in-person seminars is very effective although I am looking forward to full face-to-face classes once the pandemic restrictions are eased. My tutors and lecturers have been absolutely fantastic, and I love their engagement with the students throughout the classes; it really trains the mind to think instead of simply being spoon-fed information. The workload has been intense but still manageable and the tutors are always there if help is needed.
Perhaps the best thing about Warwick is its warm and welcoming community. As an international student, I was worried that I would face difficulty in assimilating into the local community, but it turned out that I had nothing to worry about at all. Everyone I’ve met so far has been really friendly regardless of who they are and what background they come from. I’ve made a lot of friends with my fellow countrymen as well as with amazing individuals from all over the world which helped me settle down comfortably here at Warwick.
The extensive variety of clubs and societies available for students of any year to join is another major highlight of studying at Warwick. Personally, I joined the Warwick Malaysian Students Association, the Warwick Law Society and the University of Warwick Swimming and Water Polo club. These societies have been wonderful because of the many interesting and beneficial events that they hold for their members. For example, I’ve taken part in the First-Year Mooting Competition organised by the Law Society which has elevated my understanding of my course and further developed my interest in it.
It is truly a dream come true for me to be able to pursue my higher education at this university. I can wholeheartedly recommend Warwick without any hesitation if you are looking for a top-notch university that is also very well-rounded in terms of the quality of its student experience.
