BSc (Hons) Marine Biology
I chose to study at the University of Plymouth after finding out that their marine biology degree was one of the best in the UK.
I’d always wanted to study in the United Kingdom, and Plymouth’s taught and practical syllabus sounded the most appealing to me. The amazing field course opportunity just confirmed my choice.
Growing up in Borneo, I’ve always lived by the sea. So Plymouth’s proximity to the sea was also something that caught my eye.
Since starting my course, I have had the opportunity to meet people working across a range of industries.
My seminars and workshops have shown me what careers are available to me after I finish university – including aquatic biology, fish and fisheries, and marine conservation policy and planning.
What’s more, our field trips have given me the opportunity to truly experience Marine Biology in the real world. I have already visited South West Water’s Mayflower Water Treatment Works, Plymouth Fisheries, and completed field courses in South Africa and Roscoff, France.
Studying at the University of Plymouth has allowed me to show employers that I have the confidence to put myself in a foreign environment, outside of my comfort zone. I have expanded my network beyond my home country and have loved every second of it
Plymouth is a great place to study, especially for marine science. The research boats, the marine station, the Marine Building, the aquarium… Plymouth really does have it all!
International Student Advice (ISA) provide amazing help to international students. They help you to make the most out of your time in Plymouth, and are always there if you need guidance or advice.
Plymouth has everything you could want from a city. The University is situated in the city centre, surrounded by shops, restaurants and the beautiful Barbican. It’s also only a short journey away from Dartmoor National Park and picturesque Cornwall!
