Moving to the UK was a huge transition but thankfully, with the help of my university and MABECS, I was able to settle into life here relatively smoothly. In the months leading up to my departure, I received a lot of support with my visa application and there was always someone to talk to about my concerns.

When I finally arrived, I had to self-isolate for 10 days because my vaccination status was still not recognised. I was apprehensive but the university provided us with more than enough food and supplies to make the process painless. This support never waned after isolation and there are still so many ways to get advice and support since the Student Union and all academic departments have designated points of contact.

Classes soon began and I found myself in a completely new environment but it is amazing how quickly we can adapt to unfamiliar situations. I did feel lost at times and it took a while for me to find my footing, but eventually I started meeting people with similar values and we began making memories. My flat mates started out as strangers but quickly became some of my closest friends as time went by.

All of this proves that anything is possible with the right perspective – it will not be easy, but it will add to your personal growth in the end.
