MSc Project Management
I am Kavitha Seras, a postgraduate student which is currently pursuing MSc Project Management in the Southampton Business School. I have a vision and it is my passion to contribute and make a difference to the community at large in the long run to build sustainable cities and communities. My goal is to complete the master’s degree and set up my consultancy firm in my home country focusing on sustainable development practices. Through my firm, I plan to educate and facilitate dialogues among the industry players in the development sector to embrace and adopt the latest innovative technologies that are more environmentally friendly and cost-effective. I would like to play a key role in ensuring the industry players in the property and infrastructure domain will use the sustainable development model.
I believe my knowledge in geospatial or more commonly known as Geographic Information System (GIS) would be an added advantage while further equipping myself with better management skills, learning the key techniques in handling projects, and leveraging my working experience. The main reason I chose MSc Project Management at the University of Southampton as my preferred course is that learning strategic management of projects would help to enhance my ability to integrate and lead an interdisciplinary team while improving my leadership skills. I am attracted to the program by the breadth of the curriculum and the significant exposure to ‘real-world’ projects which are based on the best international practices. The course offered by the University of Southampton includes a decision-making module, that analyzes key concepts while developing critical and analytical skills.
One of the major factors for me to choose the University of Southampton is it is a founding member of the Russell Group which is committed to maintaining the highest research and teaching standards and creating strong links with business and the public sector. It is also ranked top 15 universities in the UK and top 100 in the world. It is nothing more rewarding than experiencing a world-class education that would help me acquire knowledge, increase my competence and broaden my horizons. I always wanted to experience and embrace a new culture and consider the United Kingdom as one of the best destinations with a rich culture in the world.
Southampton Business School has a modern teaching facility, the ambiance, and feeling of walking into a corporate organization with the experience professors gave a completely new perspective and experience studying in the UK. Moreover, it has a well-established creative community with plenty of craft events, musical nights, country-specific associations which are actively running the program, and also various sports activities and clubs. In short, there are plenty of things to do, learn and explore and it gave me the whole new experience of studying in a well-established institution. A diverse background of students from various countries across the globe made my experience studying at the University of Southampton even more meaningful where you would find lifelong friends and like-minded alliances for future collaborations. As one of the Chevening Awardees for 2021/2022 under the government of the United Kingdom, I am thrilled to pursue my dream and my career path with one of its partner institutions – the University of Southampton, United Kingdom.
Last but not least, the University of Southampton is ready to give more than educational experience such a session with an inspiring entrepreneur, astronauts and always find way to add value into a student’s experience. The support extended even before and until I arrived to the university was very commendable where Jason Ong and Lizzie went extra miles to ensure everything was well taken care.
