Deciding what to study can be both confusing and daunting. To make this decision a bit easier, MABECS has created a fun personality quiz to help you explore courses that might pique your interest.
This quiz is based on the Holland Code framework, also known as the Holland Occupational Themes (RIASEC). This theory categorizes individuals into one or more of six personality types: Realistic (R), Investigative (I), Artistic (A), Social (S), Enterprising (E), and Conventional (C). Each type aligns with certain work environments and occupations, helping to match your personality with potential career and major choices. This alignment increases job satisfaction, performance, and academic success. We've adapted this framework to help you choose university courses.
In developing this quiz, we dedicated extensive thought and research to ensure it provides valuable insights into what an individual could be academically seeking. Drawing from our 39 years of experience, our team of EAs, and insights from a Master's student in Psychology, we also conducted surveys to refine the quiz. While we can't promise 100% accuracy, we hope you enjoy this quiz and take the results with a pinch of salt.
As a proud Malaysian company, we wanted to showcase our culture in this quiz. Special thanks to Ili Sulaiman for her contributions. Her knowledge of Malaysian cuisine and experience as an international student added a unique twist to our project. When we asked Ili if she saw a correlation between choosing a major and cooking, she said:
"100% there is a correlation. You first have to pick something that tickles your fancy and gets you excited. What’s the point in studying or eating something that you're not interested in? Secondly, always research and find the best place to study/restaurant to eat your fav dish or study your favourite subject. Every university has its perks and what is it about that university that makes you want to go to university everyday. You will be spending a lot of time there so make sure you like your campus and what it has to offer. Third, if it doesn’t work out, have a back up. My second pick to Queen Mary University of London was Bristol which I was happy to go to if I didn't make it to QMUL and just like any restaurants, if the food you want to eat at this specific restaurant is full or closed, have a plan B so you never left Hangry."
Prior to venturing into the world of culinary Ili studied Business Management at Queen Mary Univeristy of London:
I loved every second of my university life. I delved into it wholeheartedly and without hesitation. When I arrived, I put my bags down and said hi to everyone on my floor at the halls of residence. I also cooked a Malaysian meal that night and invited all my new friends. It was chicken rice and they loved it! My university course had so many diverse people from all over the world which has benefitted me until today. Whenever I visit any country I have a university friend from my course that lives there. Uni was filled with classes, lectures, course work and team based coursework. It’s a struggle but I managed to excel because I think I just get on with people and I am also a bit of a go-getter. In Uni it's about relationship building I noticed. If you have good relations, you can bend on each other and work things out. I never had any issues working with others but maybe I was lucky. I wanted to be in London but wanted campus living so I opted for Queen Mary University of London. I knew I also had a flare in business having started working at 16 years old running events, I wanted to have a feel of what studying business would do for me. I am glad I ended up doing Business Management because it gave me the foundation and also I learnt a lot of business jargon that I use now. - Ili Sulaiman
